Early Childhood Educator Position Overview (Full Time Lead Teacher):
Stony Brook School welcomes experienced and collaborative Early Childhood Educators to apply for an opportunity to join our team. We are currently hiring for both part time and a full time teaching positions for our Reggio-inspired preschool. Teachers work in a collaborative classroom environment, working alongside their co-teachers to provide a safe, nurturing, play based learning environment for children ages 2.9 - 6 years. Following our schools anti-bias mission and Reggio Emilia inspired approach, teachers are responsible for facilitating an emergent and developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the social and emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of the children. Summary of Job Duties:
The Lead Teacher has the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of all the children in their classroom.
The Lead Teachers will support the mission and educational approach of Stony Brook School, providing a nurturing, consistent, developmentally appropriate environment that meets the emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs of young children.
The Lead Teacher will create an inviting classroom environment that is aligned with our Reggio inspired approach, and model care for materials and classroom organization.
The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an emergent and contextual curriculum, utilizing project-based and play-based learning experiences that focus on the children’s inquiries, interests and developmental skills/needs.
The Lead Teacher is responsible for proactively working to support emotional and social development, fostering prosocial thinking within the classroom environment, and developing tools/systems to support children’s understanding and awareness of emotional regulation.
Through observation and documentation, the Lead Teacher will build relationships and understanding of each children’s individual temperament, developmental skills, learning styles, and social/emotional development and be responsive to support each child’s individual needs.
The Lead Teacher will develop and maintain positive, supportive family relationships and will work to include each families cultural identity within the classroom setting
The Lead Teacher will maintain a commitment to professionalism, proactive communication and communication, and collaborate with co-teachers.
The Lead Teacher will be committed to best practices in the field of Early Childhood Education and engage in ongoing continuing education to support their own personal growth and learning.
The Lead Teacher must abide by all EEC licensing standards, and all policies and procedures set forth in the employee handbook.

Physical Requirements: Work requires close visual acuity and physical ability to determine the accuracy, neatness, and completion of the work assigned, or to make general observations of facilities, participants or environment. Physical ability to perform the following daily tasks: light custodial duties (sweeping, vacuuming, remove trash, washing tables, cleaning up spills or accidents as needed), snack distribution, diapering/bathroom assistance, classroom preparation, monitoring for physical safety, general supervision and wellbeing of participants, walking to/from playground. Ability to lift 35+ pounds. Must be able to climb, stoop,walk, run (when necessary), reach, stand, lift, feel, kneel, communicate appropriately, and be capable of repetitive motion. Supervise children in classrooms, on field trips and outdoor explorations. Able to walk, bend, stand, squat, kneel, or sit on the floor with children throughout an 8-hour day. Able to walk up and down steps several times each day. Able to physically respond quickly in an emergency. Understand the risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids and use universal precautions in such instances.
